Cooling Off

The following are just ideas that some members have found to be especially helpful for dealing with the problems encountered in withdrawal.


"Sometimes, cooling off my face when it's flushing with heat and/or anxiety has helped me to relax. You can try these things:

bulletApply a cold washcloth to your forehead, cheeks, and neck.
bulletPut cold packs or bags of frozen vegetables on your neck. This also helps with neck tension and muscle aches.
bulletPoint a fan at your face and crank it full blast for a minute or two, then keep it focused on you at a lower setting until the sweats pass.
bulletIn a pinch, find a sink and splash cold water on your face multiple times to bring your temperature down and to center yourself."
