POSTING TO THE BENZO GROUP WHAT SHOULD I POST TO THE GROUP HOW DO I REPLY TO A LETTER FROM THE GROUP SHOULD I LEAVE THE ORIGINAL LETTER IN MY RESPONSE SHOULD I ADDRESS MY LETTER TO SOMEONE WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN THE SUBJECT LINE HOW CAN I CHANGE MY LIST STATUS WHAT IS THE INDIVIDUAL EMAILS VERSION WHAT IS THE DAILY DIGEST VERSION WHAT IS THE NO MAIL/WEB ONLY VERSION WHAT SHOULD I POST TO THE GROUP? Answers to members’ questions which will benefit the entire group should be posted to the group, as well as new ideas or information. Let’s try to make our posts supportive, informative and educational. Because of the size of the group, off topic emails are discouraged. Should you choose to post something off topic, please put “Off Topic” or O/T in the subject line. HOW DO I REPLY TO A LETTER FROM THE GROUP? You can respond just to the writer, or you can respond to the whole group. The Benzo Group default setting is for your message to go to the entire group if you hit Reply. To reply to an individual writer, click Reply, delete benzo@yahoogroups.com from the “To” field, and substitute the person’s email address. Messages which are personal or social should go to the person who originated the message rather than to the group. If you are just offering a short personal response, like, "Great letter . . . I agree with you." please send it to the individual, rather than loading up everyone's in box. If a group member emails you PRIVATELY on any matter, please do not post their email to the entire group without their permission. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR "TO" LINE AND SEE WHERE YOUR LETTER IS GOING. Many of us have been embarrassed beyond belief when a post which we thought was going to an individual went to the entire group! So, look at your “To” field before hitting the Send button SHOULD I LEAVE THE ORIGINAL LETTER IN MY RESPONSE? If the original letter is very short, you can leave it in your response. If the letter is long, remove parts that do NOT apply to your response. Please trim your posts. Responding to lengthy posts without trimming them makes it difficult for people who receive the Daily Digest version to weed through their emails. SHOULD I ADDRESS MY LETTER TO SOMEONE? If your letter is a response to someone else's letter, but meant for the whole group to read, it's nice to start with the person's name, so they know the letter is meant for them. You should also put their name in the Subject Line, to catch their attention. WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN THE SUBJECT LINE? With a group this size, it’s a good idea to keep the subject line simple and straightforward. Many members don’t have time to read all the emails, and they may delete your post if your subject line is too vague. HOW LONG SHOULD MY LETTER BE? If your letter is too long, you'll overwhelm us. If you have specific questions, making them "Short and Sweet" will get a FASTER response from many people. Putting paragraph breaks in longer posts makes them much easier to read. HOW CAN I CHANGE MY LIST STATUS? To change your list status, go to the http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/benzo and click on Edit my Membership. You have Four Options: Individual Emails, Daily Digest, No Mail/Web Only and Unsubscribe. Select the method you prefer by highlighting it. WHAT IS THE "INDIVIDUAL EMAILS" VERSION? You will receive emails throughout the day, 24 hours a day. By choosing this version, you will be able to respond to individual writers easily, since you’ll have their emails right in front of you in your inbox. However, depending on how busy the group is, you may find 50-100 emails in your box every day. WHAT IS THE "DAILY DIGEST" VERSION? You will receive one or possibly two emails per day depending on the number of messages posted to the group. These emails will contain all the emails from the previous 24-hr period. Please note that, if you want to post a message in Daily Digest mode, you will need to delete all the posts except the one to which you are replying. Otherwise, you’ll have all the posts in the Daily Digest along with your post. WHAT IS THE "NO MAIL/WEB ONLY" VERSION? You will not receive any individual mails and will have to go to the Home Page to read and post messages. To post a new message to the group, go to the group Home
